2018 The National public Memorial Day of Nanjing Massacre was held in The Hague, Netherlands

On the 81st anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and the fifth National Day, in the afternoon of December 10th, Stichting CEBCN hosted the “The National public Memorial Day of Nanjing Massacre”, supported by institutions and individuals, was held at the International Press Center in The Hague, the capital of justice.

On that day, Mr. Lucien Tjon (Chairman of Stichting CEBCN), Mr. Henk Kool (Chairman of the Netherlands-China Friendship Association, and former Vice Mayor of The Hague), Mr. Thomas Schwencke (Vice President of the Hague National Memorial Foundation), Overseas Chinese, Representatives of Overseas Students, Dutch Political Business and Peace-lovers More than 100 people attended the event. Through this meaningful event, we hope to remind more people to remember this period of history and cherish and protect peace. In addition, ambassadors from Bosnia, Kosovo, Thailand, the Republic of El Salvador and other peace people have also sent letters to support.

The atmosphere was solemn. The mourning activities began with the sound of the alarm. The student representatives presented wreaths to the victims and played the National Anthem of the People’s Republic of China. The audience mourned for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.

General Director of the event, Mr. Lucien Tjon delivered a speech at the event. We held a public ceremony for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre in the Netherlands, not only to commemorate, but also to let the world understand and remember history, to arouse the aspirations and persistence of every kind person for peace and jointly contribute to the peace of mankind.

“Forgetting history means betrayal, denying guilt means recidivism.” Mr. Lucien Tjon quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping as saying that anyone who wants to tamper with or deny the massacre of the Nanjing Massacre will not be accepted by the world and history. “As overseas Chinese, we hope that future generations will not forget this period of history and wish the world peace forever. Mankind will never have a war.” Mr. Lucien Tjon said.

Mr. Henk Kool quoted Xi Jinping’s speech as saying that the public sacrifice ceremony for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre was to arouse people’s awareness of fighting for and adhering to peace, rather than continuing hatred. “Only by keeping in mind the history can we face the future.”

Thomas Schwencke talked about his views on world peace. He said that history will not be forgotten and pays tribute to all those who sacrificed for freedom. He called for lessons from war. Everyone makes contribution for peace of the world from everyday life.

A historical documentary film “Unveiled the Japanese “comfort women” system atrocities” was played. It is jointly produced by Nanjing Radio and Television Station and the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre of the Japanese Invaders. The event came to a close in the photo exhibition “Common Witness: 1937 Nanjing Massacre”.
