On December 12, 2017, The 4th National public memorial day of Nanjing Massacre was held at Nieuwspoort, the Hague.
At 1:30 pm, the guests were present. On December 11th, the Netherlands had just experienced a blizzard, but the Chinese overseas and Dutch friendly people who participated in the event overcame the snow, and nearly 200 guests were present on time for the event. At 2:30 pm, the host announced the official start of the Dutch Chinese overseas Chinese mourning event on the National Day of the Nanjing Massacre.
The alarm was raised on the spot and six Dutch school representatives escorted the wreath to enter the stadium. With the rise of the audience, the National Anthem of the People’s Republic of China was broadcast live. As the national anthem was finished, all the guests observed a minute of silence.
After that, the chairman of the event, Mr. Lucien Tjon, executive chairman of Stitching GDNE, first delivered a speech. He expressed his recollection of the victims and showed that Chinese overseas should not forget the national humiliation, strive for self-improvement, unite in the city, revitalize China, and teach our next generation. Expressing the national spirit and promoting everyone’s efforts for world peace. Subsequently, the President of the Netherlands-China Friendship Association (VNC), the former deputy mayor of The Hague City, Mr. Henk Kool, the president of the All-China Federation of Chinese Associations, Mr. Ji Zengbin, and representatives of the Dutch Federation of Students returned to the stage.
The six student representatives came to the stage to recite the “Peace Declaration” to inspire people. The live video of the famous painter Li Zijian and the documentary “Declassified Japanese “comfort women” atrocities provided by Nanjing TV Station” were broadcast live. The guests learned more about the history of the Nanjing Massacre. The day’s event ended in the photo exhibition “Common Witness: 1937 Nanjing Massacre”.
